On this ski touring program, you will discover the iconic Haute Route that goes from Chamonix to Zermatt. This legendary region offers us fantastic climbing experiences with great descents and incredible views on the way.

 

Keep in mind that the Haute Route represents a high-altitude challenge aimed at experienced participants with a very good physical condition.

Itinerary

​

Day 1 - Courmayeur - Argentière Hut

​

Our meeting point will be Courmayeur, where we will check the equipment and have a short briefing. From there, we will go to Argentière and take the cable car to the Col des Grands Montets. Then, we will start a descent on the Rognons Glacier until the Argentière Glacier. Afterwards, we will get to the Argentière Hut, where we will spend the night.

 

Elevation gain: 200 meters. Ascent time: 3 hours.

Day 2 - Champex

​

At 7 am, we’ll begin our descent through a stretch of the Argentière Glacier and go with ropes and crampons up to Col Passon. Then, we’ll start the Le Tour Glacier. First, we’ll cross to the Col Superieur du Tour and enter the Trient Plateau, which we’ll descend until the Col des Ecadies. We’ll enjoy skiing down the easy slopes at Val d’Arpette and reach Champex. Here we will stop for the night.

 

Elevation gain:1000 meters. Ascent time: 6-8 hours.

Day 3 - Cabane de Prafleuri

​

From Champex we go to Le Châble, where we’ll take a gondola lift to the Verbier ski area. Then, two more lifts up to Col des Gentianes. After enjoying a 200-meter descent, we’ll put our skins on and go to Col de La Chaux. Another fantastic descent awaits us and then we’ll skin up to Col Momin. At the Rosablanche, we’ll contemplate the Pigne d’Arolla. Afterwards, we’ll descend to the Cabane de Prafleuri, have dinner and sleep.

 

Elevation gain: 800 meters. Ascent time: 6 hours.

Day 4 - Cabane des Dix

​

We’ll get to the Col des Roux with our skins in half an hour. Then, we’ll start a long descent above the reservoir of the Grande Dixence Dam. Once we reach the end of the lake, we’ll put our skins again and go up to the Pas du Chat and continue to the Cabane des Dix. We’ll have dinner and sleep in the hut.

 

Vertical drop: 800 meters. Ascent time: 7-8 hours.

Day 5 - Cabane des Vignettes

​

On this day, first we’ll ascend the Cheillon Glacier up to Col du Brenay, and then to the Pigne d’Arolla. At this point, we’ll be able to admire an awe-inspiring 360° view of the Western Alps. Following the sights, a great descent on the glacier will take us to the Cabane des Vignettes, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night.

 

Elevation gain: 850 meters. Ascent time: 6-7 hours.

Day 6 - Getting to Zermatt

​

On our last day, we’ll ski down to the Col de Charmontane and ascend to the Col de l’Eveque. When we are beneath the Col du Mont Brulé, we’ll put our skis on climb 200 meters up to the col. The following descent will lead us to the Tsan Glacier and then we’ll ascend to the Col de Valpelline. From this point, a breathtaking view of the Dent d’Herens and the Matterhorn’s west face will delight us. Finally, we’ll start the iconic descent to Zermatt, which has a vertical drop of 2,500 meters. We’ll go down the Stockji Glacier, under the Matterhorn’s north face.
